They have put lots of effort to show Chennai in 60’s in the flash back of father suriya. The old bus, old looks of Chennai central all they tried good. Even the makeup of suriya and simran also they tried to resemble the old movies. But the song ‘Munthinam Parthenae’ is composed with latest tune. The song is too good. But, If they have tried that song to resemble the songs of 60s or 70s then it would have been more suited. Now it is like the old artists act for the new song which normally the reality shows in TV will do.
Most of the songs comes in first half of the movie. If they would have ended the movie with the first half the movie itself it would be an excellent movie. But as a standard rule of Tamil cinema, to run for minimum of 15 to 16 reels they have taken the story to different direction in the second part which is no way related to that main stream. So the impression they have created in the first half completely erased by them in the second half. The main story is excellent and this should have been presented more effectively in which they failed.
The Surya character as son is talking about the father’s loan and construction of the new house. But he has not talked about his sister’s marriage as a good brother. Even till the end of the movie nobody taken care of surya’s sister marriage. No answer for that.
Surya, the only man who has taken the entire movie on his shoulder and carried out his job very neatly. There is a huge improvement in his acting. Sameera reddy is good to see but not much scope for her to show her performance. At least in coming movies we can expect more from her.
Songs are really superb but the rerecording is not that much good. One good thing about that movie is that they have not taken any separate comedy track which normally the other movies will do.
As a summary the vaaranam aaryiram movie can be seen one time that too for surya and songs.
